Hey Friend!
How are you? Is it still acceptable to say Happy New Year? Well, it’s still January so…
Happy New Year!
You’re not gonna believe this but I started writing a post weeks ago but every time I go back to finish it, it seems less and less relevant…
What did I write about, you ask? A number of things, including:
- The cold snap we were deep in the throws of in the UK (we are now experiencing our second storm of the year and have to deal with heavy downpours with gale-force winds).
- My car-crash interview in which I knew I wouldn’t get the job from the moment I sat down but had to sit through the cringe-worthy process anyway.
- Watching New Year’s fireworks which were actually not much different than the year before… I’m sure the only thing to change were the colours and the music. We sat there wondering why anyone would pay to stand in the cold for hours on end for a ten-minute, lack-lustre display.
- A bit about goals and how we need to be a bit brave in order to achieve them. Just step out there, and feel uncomfortable – until you don’t anymore.
So as you can see, it’s all a bit late in the month to be writing about that stuff.
However, late seems to be the way forward – at least when it comes to goals. I’ll explain:
Today I completed my first workout of the New Year! Yay (I know you’re applauding me right now and I graciously accept your appreciation)!
I told a friend about my amazing feat and she said ‘Welcome to 2025 – it has officially started!’ This from a woman who has been to the gym nine times in the past two weeks (I am highly unlikely to ever achieve this level of dedication)..!
But it made me think: maybe we put too much pressure on ourselves to achieve our goals in January? To go all in, only for the spark to fizzle out in February and coast through the rest of the year waiting to put the same goal on our list next year.
Maybe this is a better way of doing it, starting small and working our way up?
My body was crying through the workout and my lungs were screaming to get more air to them, pronto! But – and this might be a cliché – I felt (still feel!) so good afterwards!
So, that’s my advice – start small. And even if you haven’t started yet, there’s still four days of January left – do something, any small thing towards your goals. That way you won’t coast through the year wishing things would be better, but instead, will arrive at the end of the year, wiser, stronger, fitter – freer.
I have a feeling this is going to be a great year 😊
Let me know how you get on!
Speak soon xx
