Hey Friend!
Happy New Year!
So is it ‘New Year, New You?’ Or is there some other non-committal mantra you’re following? 😊 I’m taking some time this week to set some goals with intention, which just means I’m making a plan to actually achieve them. Two I’ll share with you:
- Re-learning the saxophone (it’s been sat in my wardrobe for years but now with the existence of YouTube, I can pretty much learn from scratch via the internet. Result!)
- Learn to swim. I know, I know – how does a woman get to her mid forties and still not have mastered this very important life-skill? Well, this is the year (I hope…).
Christmas was lovely. My brother and sister-in-law hosted for the first time. I’m usually the host so while I loved the idea of doing nothing, I also felt a bit sad at not having to cook. Believe me, the sadness passed pretty quickly when we were all sat down at the table – a grand total of fourteen hungry mouths to feed (well, thirteen as my niece isn’t even one-year-old yet)! Dinner was delicious, the company even better and just like that, Christmas was over in a flash.
It feels weird being in my mid forties now. I always think back to a day in primary school when we were asked to draw a picture of what the year 2000 would look like. I (along with many others) included a flying car (of course!). Yet here we are in the year 2024 and no closer to it (as far as I know)…
At that young age of probably seven or eight, I was asked to imagine the world. However, I didn’t imagine what my world – my life would look like. I think I started paying attention to what I wanted it to be far too late, really. But that’s what goal-setting is about for me – getting my life as close to what I now want it to be.
So what does that look like?
It’s being unshakeable in my faith in God.
It’s being in the best shape possible but realising that’s not going to happen overnight.
It’s having quality time with my children and creating great memories with them.
It’s being in a loving relationship where we work together as part of a team.
It’s having a thriving business doing what I love.
All of this requires one thing from me: discipline.
My children roll their eyes and sigh when I mention this word but it really is the key to a fulfilling life. So my encouragement to you today is this: no matter what your goals are this year, you can achieve them all with a bit of discipline 😊
I’ll give you an update on the saxophone and swimming lessons next month. In the meantime, let me know some of your goals in the comments so I can cheer you on!
