Hey there,
How are you?
I love spring. Daffodils, tulips, Magnolia blossom – what’s not to love?
Well, one thing has to be the weather. I had to laugh when the weather lady talked of unseasonably high temperatures reaching the dizzying heights of 17 degrees Celsius… In the next breath she said ‘But don’t put away your winter coat until May at least’. Seriously? I’ve already been sucked in by all the pretty flowers and my winter coat was replaced by the [slightly] padded raincoat weeks ago. Thankfully I have yet to part with my scarf but the duvet coat may have to make an unexpected comeback this week…
After two weeks off for Easter, the children all went back to school this week and frankly, I’m glad because it means a well stocked fridge will actually last the week. I mean, what is it with children being continually hungry when they’re at home?
Thankfully, a well-stocked fruit bowl usually does the trick. Everyone loves tangerines, apples (not Older Miss who dislikes apples but loves apple juice…), nectarines etc. But the bananas? Bubs seems to think they’re bought solely for him. He could eat a whole bunch in a day if I’d let him.
Imagine our surprise when he read out some funny facts from his Beano comic, one of which stated that 50% or your DNA is the same as a banana! Maybe that’s why he loves them so much!
The Beano is a regular buy in our house. It started with OM and a trip to the supermarket with Mr E.
She desperately wanted him to buy her a magazine. Not just any magazine. No. It had to be the Barbie magazine which came with a phone – I know! Who wouldn’t want that?!
Mr E, in his wisdom told her ‘You don’t want that. Get this instead.’ He showed her a copy of the Beano, and his eyes went all misty as he reminisced on how he used to read it when he was a boy and how funny it was.
Sceptical, OM listened to her dad and so began a weekly tradition of buying the Beano.
I watched her reading it many times over the years. Not one smile was cracked. Not one hint of a giggle let alone a belly laugh. But Mr E kept buying them and OM gratefully read and stored each one.
Clearly, this is just a matter of taste as, a couple of years ago, she decided it was time to pass the baton to Bubs.
Watching him read the comic is so different – smiles, laughter – he can hardly contain himself. He regularly calls me over: ‘Mummy, Mummy..’ (laughter) ‘Mummy, listen to this!’ (more laughter) ‘I can’t believe he said that!’ (gasping for breath and more laughter) This can continue for quite some time but you get the gist 😄
I’ll leave you with a few more of the Beano’s funny facts before I go. Apparently:
- 30% of people can flare their nose
- 1% of your farts smell (I live with Bubs and Mr E – I do not believe this one is true…)
- 70% of dust in your house is human skin (gross)
- And lastly, 60% of Americans believe chocolate milk comes from brown cows (surely not!)
Have a great week!
